JULIUS MEINL: VIENNESE COFFEE HOUSE MOMENTS SINCE 1862.

As one of Europe's leading coffee brands, the Meinl family has been dedicated to special quality for five generations, from origin to perfect blending to gentle roasting. With a great deal of expertise and care, Meinl's master roasters create unique Viennese coffee blends so you can enjoy the perfect cup of coffee.

QUALITY AND EXPERTISE FOR OVER 150 YEARS

Julius Meinl I opened a small store in the heart of Vienna in 1862, selling spices from all over the world, rice, tea and green coffee, because at that time coffee was still roasted in the oven at home. The story goes that one day a maid in tears came to the store because she had burned the expensive coffee beans. And so the idea of offering ready-roasted coffee was born. However, it was his son Julius Meinl II who revolutionized the roasting process in Europe. A process he invented meant that the beans did not come into contact with coal gases, resulting for the first time in a full, completely natural coffee aroma. Over the years, the special aroma and unmistakable taste have made Julius Meinl the most popular coffee partner in Vienna's coffee houses, where only the best is good enough.

TYPICAL VIENNA

Viennese coffeehouse culture occupies a special place in Viennese everyday life. Coffee houses such as Café Landtmann or Café Central are world famous. But basically all typical Viennese coffeehouses represent the special atmosphere, from the colorful selection of coffee recipes, cakes and international newspapers to the iconic marble tables, Thonet chairs and newspaper holders. Generations of thinkers, artists and writers have used the Viennese coffeehouse as a place of inspiration, gathering and exchange - then and now. One of two Meinl roasteries is located in Vienna's 16th district. Here, they specialize in the creation of premium Arabica blends and the typical Viennese roast, which is medium to dark roasted and characterized by a nutty, chocolatey flavor.
